Other Media | FiskerForum: Action demandes against Rogue Gill Netters

UNITED KINGDOM
Tuesday, June 16, 2020

The two largest fishing associations in Scotland want to see Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) investigate and charge skippers who put lives in danger at sea. This follows an incident in which a Spanish-owned, German-registered gill netter made an attempt to foul the propeller of a Shetland trawler.

The incident was captured on video and has been widely shared on social media as the Hamburg-registered Pesorsa Dos, one of a number of German-flagged fishing vessels operating from La Coruña, manoeuvred in close proximity to the trawler as the rope was deployed.

Other Media | EuropaAzul: Europe extends its submarine sea without the exploitation objective being known

EUROPEAN UNION
Tuesday, June 16, 2020

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, a specialized agency of the United Nations, authorizes France to extend its continental shelf outside the islands of Reunion and Saint-Paul and Amsterdam (French Southern lands and Antarctica). In this way, the country will extend its submarine domain by more than 150,000 km 2 (58,121 km 2 outside Reunion, and 93,202 km 2 outside Saint-Paul and Amsterdam), the equivalent of more than a quarter of the area of ??France. . This new extension increases France's rights to explore and exploit the resources of the seabed and the subsoil (hydrocarbons, minerals, metals or biological resources) beyond 200 nautical miles (350 km) and up to ‘650 km from its coast. It only refers to the soil and subsoil, the remaining waters, meanwhile, in the international domain.

Other Media | FishFarmer: Oslo backs down on salmon tax shareout

NORWAY
Monday, June 15, 2020

THE Norwegian government appears to have relented to pressure and agreed to pay the country’s fish farming communities millions of kroner extra under its new salmon tax plans. Last week in an unprecedented revolt up to 70 regional mayors protested to Oslo that its new proposals would leave them at least a billion kroner worse off than under the current Aquaculture Fund scheme.

The country’s fish farming companies are still not happy that they have become victims of a new tax, but agree that this latest charge is preferable to the 40 per cent levy on profits proposed by an independent committee last November, a move which has since been rejected. In its place Oslo came up with a plan last month to levy NOK O.40 (40 øre or cents) per kilo on all salmon and trout produced.

Other Media | FiskerForum: Quiet May for landings in Murmandk

RUSSIAN FEDERATION
Monday, June 15, 2020

The Murmansk Sea Fishing Port saw a drop in activity during May this year with no blue whiting products landed at the port last month.

While in April fishing companies had landed 60% of their catches to the port, this figure fell to around 30% last month, as a roll-back in Covid-19 restrictions in European ports meant that more production was landed elsewhere.

As a result, there were only landings of demersal fish and shrimp in Murmansk during last month as 47 fishing vessels landed catches.
